The Big 2-1! sweet treats!

It finally came the big 21 ! i am officially an adult ! to be honest i don't feel a day older! ( i'm trying to maintain my youth here) i was greeted with the balloons, cards and a fabulous cake and some mini cupcakes ... iguess i have a sweet tooth but it was a fabulous morning a lil sunshine just to make me feel a little better because later on i had t make a a 2hr treck back to uni to complete my dissertation ...but it will def be worth it n the end. However before the work started a few friends back at uni halls decided to get me merry because as the saying goes you are only 21 once right? but their intentions were a little different than what i had anticipated .
wray and nephews and white chocolate and vanilla cake ...... perfect combination i might add ! i ended up in the trolley but still made it to the library. multi-tasking is what i do best :D

pretty young thing ...

I didn't really know much about Sessilee Lopez until i made my purchase of September 2009 issue of i-d. It was not only Italian vogue that embraced ethnic girls on the covers of fashion magazines.
One year later, and i'm in love with the Sessilee's editorial shoot for Laquan Smith S/S 10 Campaign . To sum it up with one word it's ....F.I.E.R.C.E ( just for my trusty follower and life long friend miss nash). A little chanel chic meets balenciaga with the structured shoulders and the black and white affair. A fashion date made in heaven. But i have to say the pieces are amazing ... with my birthday party less than a month away the bodycon dress and the multi-coloured piece below are some possible ideas for an outfit ( but obviously a high street finds -  oooh the life of a student!)
i'm thinking of going for a hair style make over and chop of these locks ...possibly as short as sessilee's .... i'll be looking for feedback .... x

La vie de Laurent

i constantly keep on planning visits to Paris but for some reason i never follow through. Since hearing about Yves Saint Laurent exhibition at the Petit Palais, i'm feeling to break my spending ban and purchase a Eurostar ticket to Paris to see the work of of Laurent- that's a justifiable excuse i'd say! Of course it wouldn't be the same as viewing his work in person but the book is the most creative way of seeing how Yves Saint Laurent became one of the most renown and distinctive designers of the twentieth century and we are able to experience LA VIE DE LAURENT and the unveiling of his ground breaking design LE SMOKING TUXEDO. Pierre Berge once said: "Chanel liberated the woman, but Yves Saint Laurent gave them power.' The book also looks back on his life at Christian Dior to his  prêt a porter shop on the Rive Gauche. The exhibition started on the 11 March and ends 29 August. Tickets are 11 euros so that's a little bargain! So a mini break to paris after all this stress ( and to celebrate turning 21 in style -because your only young and 21 once) oui, s'il vous plait!!!

Obsessive Consumption

Since 5 th February 2006, Kate Bingaman-Burt started drawing one item each day that she purchased, simply documenting her consumptions ranging from hot-dogs to aviator glasses.  Her book Obsessive Consumption: What did you buy today? showcases over three-years worth of sketches and sharing her personal relationship with shopping and her personal opinion on mass produced products and her statement on American consumerism. I'm in love with the quriky illustration. It's simple and has a sense of humour but her personal twist makes it more authentic. I particularly like the ink drawings and sketches (reminds me slightly of my doodles in a 3hr lecture on Victorian culture and society)and has given me an idea to put a little collage together of my own ...but to be honest my obsessive consumptions would consist of clothes more clothes, books, food, railway tickets, nail varnish and rich tea biscuits!! Apologies for the long wait but my degree calls and it's imperative that i graduate!

Erykah Badu

The queen of neosoul is back with her brand new album. I mentioned that i'd comment about music and feel that i have slightly neglected that side.Apologies. When i heard bag lady (which i feel strongly reflects me and the untold numbers of bags i used to carry in my younger days p.e. kit , lunch box, school bag under each arm) and love of my life (which will definitely be playing at my wedding!!!-whenever that may be) i fell in love with this lady and her music. Her new single window seat has been on repeat for the last hour and i can't get enough... i will be downloading the album tonight...

suspended......

OOOOOOOOOOO my pretty chic Henry Holland Tights finally arrived ...and i felt i needed to showcase them! It was a love affair when i saw them a while back but knowing my luck i always seem to hear those dreaded words ...'OUT OF STOCK.' Luckily i found a random pair at work. I thought i'd work my underwear for outerwear look with my oversized lace shirt and a bowler hat. All that's missing is a dickie bow tie ....

I've gone a bit wild on the photographs(given Mr B. a break and opted for a camera courtesy of my friend Danica, who took the shots -Bravo!) and the random toy cars in the background is a result of the  five rugrats (aka cousins) running around my house ....kids and their toys!

DVF ... SHE'S OUR DIGITAL GIRL

The world of dvf , is brought to your fingertips as Diane Von Furstenburg launches a series of applications to the i-phone and i touch. The app offers runway updates, videos, shop finder, exclusive products and videos. It is ready now to be downloaded off the dvf website. With our love affair for accesories DVF  has also created a kiss me new i phone skin cover, with her signature lip print and comes in shocking pink and retails for $20 (maths was never my forte so convert into £'s). So lets get digital....digital!

Arm Candy...

the old schoolyard favourite has become this year's it bag... the satchel!
Traditional browns and blacks have been swapped for neons, bold colours and  leopard prints. If 'it' bags still exist then mulberry's Alexa satchel is definately the one to watch ! Named after the fashion savvy Alexa Chung after sporting one of
Mulberry's men's briefcases, the Elkington (top picture). Its time to boost your basics with these cult bags-the longer the strap the better! We are replacing the clutch with the satchel and the cross body bag. The high street stores warehouse and hobbs and fashion site asos have given a utilitarian look with theirs. Looks like geek is becoming très chic!

EMBELLISH ME!!

'THE WOMAN WEARS EMBELLISHMENT AND AN INTERPRETABLE LOOK ON HER FACE'.
The sun was out, and when in doubt (not knowing how to plan my day or do something constructive with my life)... shop. I'm aware that i am finishing university and at present have a 10,000 word dissertation on gendered enslavement to write (i guess you could say i am a slight feminist)- but everyone needs a break at some stage. I stumbled across this embellished jacket at river island and it will become a key part of my wardrobe...( excuse the setting for the photograph, you will come to know i'm computer and technology illiterate). I think the word OVERUSE applies in this case. Hey ...i'm addicted to sparkle and beads! Sequins and embellishment are no longer regarded as red carpet worthy and now are incorporarted with every trend this season. So this sumer i intend to ...razzzle dazzle !

clever clogs!

to clog? or not to clog? that is the question! After seeing Alexa Chung don the chanel clogs at the s/s chanel catwalk i grew an immediate attraction for the shoes i used to loathe as a child... however as this season progresses, designers and the high street are taking their own spin and innovative designs and reworking the clog! It seems the clog is this years biggest fashion revival. A fashion faux pas ...i think not ! Thanks to chanel and miu miu the classic clog has become uber cool and despite what you may think about the clumpy (and slightly clumsy) footwear this is one trend that will be hard to avoid- so to all fashionistas- invest! team yours with ditsy day dresses /skirts/ denim and for those breezy summer days , team those clogs with thick tights !
(top left hand corner : miu miu clogs, my high street pick: tan studded clogs, asos £85)

something old, something Nude...

New Nude is no longer associated with classic pieces. The renovation of the sexy pale tone is the colour for s/s. Nude nails were my statement colour for last year but it looks like i'll have to purchase some more barry m marshmallow and pink caramel to stay on trend! Draping and layering of soft toffees, truffles, champagnes and peaches add a romantic feel to this trend and offer a laid-back luxe feel. LANVIN and VALENTINO reworked this classic colour at the s/s catwalk. Accessories are essential, chunky jewellery teamed with brogues, leathers or day sandals offer a dress down day look and bold sculptured footwear give an edge. Swap your L.B.D.  for a L.N.D and remember its not what you wear ...but the way you wear it!
